Suehiro Japanese Combination Whetstone Sharpener #2500P, 1000 and 3000 Grit

Garbage
I purchased this to sharpen my sushi knives. This is complete garbage. After using it for a week, the stone has deformed. After using a stone fixer to "fix" (flatten it), half the stone is almost gone. Although it got my knives' edge scary sharp, it is not durable at all. I have 6 different sushi knives (Japanese and western styles). I feel like if I were to spend a little more time honing in the edge of these knives, I'll give it another week or two before I have to toss the stone away.

Excellent Combo Stone
I've used a 1k/6k Suehiro combo with good results for straight razors in the past, and the Suehiro line is highly respected by some other razor honers I know. So I ordered this 1k/3k combo for bevel setting and initial polishing, followed by a 6k and 8k Suehiro as well for intermediate-final polishing followed by pastes. After an initial soak, the stone as arrived from the factory did not need much lapping (I do this on a worn 325 coarse DMT plate), raising swarf after a few strokes and cutting arm hair after a few more. Can't really ask more from it! This is also a great stone for straight-razor honers who would want to move on to natural stones afterwards (otherwise the 1k/6k combo is good, followed by pastes), as most of the metal removal is done here. Also great for woodworkers in lieu of a Norton 1k/4k and for putting a slightly finer edge on those kitchen knives.

The main beef I have with my order was the delivery packaging from "Fat Cupid" as others have...

Bad idea...
I should specify right off that I've NEVER used this stone, but if it's performance is anything like the general integrity of the item, I'd avoid it.

I ordered TWO of these. The first came and looked ok, but a as soon as I removed it from the plastic, I saw it was cracked on the 3000 side all the way through, so I returned it and ordered another one. The second one arrived today and the vendor shipped it in a cheap bubble envelope! This is a ceramic stone! The package was torn, the plastic sleeve was sliced open and, low and behold, the stone was chipped, cracked and powdering. So, I'm returning it!

Based on the lone other review at the time of this posting, it seems safe to say that this product is exceptionally POOR! And at $60 or so, this is UNACCEPTABLE! Because of this I have to assume that the product is of poor quality and the vendor isn't helping things along. Therefore, I'm avoiding both companies form now on. I work too hard for my money to waste it and...
